About
The Lucas Machado Educational Foundation (FELUMA), a non-profit philanthropic entity, maintains five institutes created to fulfill the foundation’s purpose of promoting social development and quality of life through education, health, culture, science, innovation, and technology.
They are: Faculdade Ciências Médicas de Minas Gerais and Pós-graduação Ciências Médicas:
- Campus I: : 8 floors house modern classrooms, laboratories, a complete library with over 30 thousand titles (including physical works and e-books), a Skills and Realistic Simulation Laboratory (LabSim), an auditorium, a memory center, and a theater.
- Campus II: 22 classrooms, 76 consulting rooms, six operating rooms, a physiotherapy clinic, an auditorium, a restaurant, and a garden.
- Campus III: FCM-MG Dental School Clinic, a modern and spacious healthcare facility equipped with cutting-edge technology and with capacity for 73 offices for future dentists and professionals seeking specialization.
- Campus IV: this structure will be inaugurated soon and will be equipped with classrooms and offices, which will expand and replicate the structure of the other college campuses. The location, on Alameda Ezequiel Dias (downtown), is strategic for the logistics of patient care and student transportation.
Minas Gerais Medical Sciences University Hospital (HUCM-MG): a teaching hospital designed to train undergraduate and graduate students and to improve professionals, offering academic extensions, medical residencies, and research.
Minas Gerais Medical Sciences Outpatient Clinic (ACM-MG): has 16 treatment rooms specializing in Kidney Transplants, Nephrology, Urology, General, vascular, and Plastic Surgery, Otorhinolaryngology, Gynecology, Pediatrics, Proctology, and Mastology, as well as minor surgeries. It performs approximately 5 outpatient appointments per month.
Minas Gerais Medical Sciences Eye Institute (IOCM-MG): has been a reference in ophthalmological treatments for patients of the Unified Health System (SUS) since 2010. The Institute currently has a capacity of 2.000 appointments per day in the subspecialties of Glaucoma, Cataract, Strabismus, Cornea, Corneal Transplant, Retina, Ocular Plastic Surgery, Contact Lens, Refraction Consultation and Neuro-Ophthalmology.
Oncology Institute of Medical Sciences of Minas Gerais (IONCM-MG): a comprehensive care center for the Unified Health System (SUS) patients. The unit offers short-term diagnosis, a differential in oncology services. The institute will provide multidisciplinary care in oncology treatment, with 35 individual chemotherapy boxes, and rooms for physiotherapy, dentistry, nutrition, psychology, palliative care, social services, clinical pharmacy, and navigation nursing.
Cultural Institute of Medical Sciences of Minas Gerais (ICCM-MG): This institute’s objectives are to maintain and promote cultural and historical heritage activities, foster artistic production, expand access to culture, and enable socio-cultural projects for the community. It manages the Feluma Theater, the University Press of Medical Sciences, and the Medical Sciences Memory Center, another strategic project by Feluma to provide cultural development actions with social impact.

FCM-MG Research Laboratories
FCM-MG’S research laboratories are equipped with cutting-edge technology, designed to support a wide range of research and to support master’s and undergraduate students. All studies are conducted in compliance with ethical and regulatory requirements, ensuring the quality and integrity of the research carried out.
Collaborative and Multidisciplinary Approach
The Research Laboratory sector of the Faculdade Ciências Médicas de Minas Gerais is a dynamic environment that promotes intense interaction between undergraduate and graduate students, strengthening the exchange of knowledge and academic experiences. With a collaborative approach, the sector aims to foster high-impact multidisciplinary research. Integrating different knowledge areas not only drives scientific advancement but also directly contributes to the well-being of society and sustainable development, consolidating the institution’s commitment to excellence and innovation.
The sector includes four specialized laboratories.

FCM-MG Research Laboratories
THE MOLECULAR BIOLOGY LAB
The Molecular Biology Laboratory plays a fundamental role in scientific research, contributing significantly to advancing knowledge in the health field. This laboratory is essential for developing studies that identify diagnostic and prognostic markers for neoplastic, inflammatory, and infectious diseases of the oral cavity. In addition, it houses research that seeks to understand aspects of the humoral response in infectious, rare, autoimmune, and degenerative diseases, strengthening the institution’s capacity to innovate in diagnostics and treatments in the medical field.
THE CELL CULTURE LAB
O Cell Culture Laboratory opens up new possibilities for advanced research, especially in preclinical studies. Its controlled environment allows detailed analysis of cellular and molecular mechanisms, providing critical insights for determining the pathogenesis of various diseases. In addition, the laboratory is essential for the development of studies aimed at the management of cardiac emergencies, contributing to innovation in therapies and clinical interventions that can save lives.
THE IMMUNOFLOURESCENCE LAB
The Immunofluorescence Laboratory plays a key role in supporting the other laboratories at FCM-MG. With the ability to generate high-quality images of cells and tissues, this laboratory offers an indispensable tool for the detailed analysis of cellular and molecular interactions. The precision of the images obtained through immunofluorescence facilitates the identification of specific markers, allowing a deeper understanding of biological processes, which is essential for advancing research in various areas of health.
THE ANIMAL FACILITY
The animal facility is a specialized sector for developing advanced research in animal behavior and cellular and molecular neuroscience. With a highly qualified team committed to the well-being of animals, the animal facility follows strict ethical standards to ensure that the research carried out complies with current regulations. A modern and equipped infrastructure offers a controlled environment for handling and studying mice and allows for fundamental experiments to be carried out to understand biological and behavioral mechanisms.

Quality Certification
The laboratories have a Biosafety Quality Certificate (CQB) for activities with Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), according to Preliminary Extract XNUMX/XNUMX, published in the Official Gazette of the Union on XNUMX/XNUMX/XNUMX.
