In May 2026, Prof. Dr. Maria da Glória Rodrigues Machado, faculty member of the Programa de Pós-Graduação em Ciências da Saúde (PPGCS), conducted a technical visit to the University of Florida, where she was hosted by Prof. Aline Oliveira. The visit aimed to strengthen academic and scientific cooperation between the two institutions. It also enabled the alignment of potential collaborative research projects. This initiative reinforces the PPGCS’s commitment to expanding strategic partnerships and consolidating its international presence.

Prof. Maria da Glória also took part in the American Thoracic Society (ATS) International Conference 2026, considered as one of the leading international events in the fields of respiratory disease pathophysiology, intensive care, sleep, and environmental health, thereby helping to disseminate the research output associated with the Programa de Pós-Graduação em Ciências da Saúde (Graduate Program in Health Sciences) of the Faculdade Ciências Médicas de Minas Gerais (FCM-MG).

During the event, two studies were presented: “Cardiopulmonary Alterations in Mice with Elastase-Induced Emphysema” and “Angiotensin-(1-7) Attenuates Elastase-Induced Pulmonary Emphysema and Prevents Eosinophilic Exacerbation in an Asthma-Overlap Model”. These works address pathophysiological mechanisms underlying pulmonary emphysema and innovative therapeutic strategies for chronic respiratory diseases, and were developed in collaboration with researchers from national and international institutions.
