Master's Program in Health Sciences at FCM-MG
The Graduate Program in Health Sciences at Faculdade Ciências Médicas de Minas Gerais (FCM-MG) expands the offer of the Master’s degree in Belo Horizonte, providing a curriculum aligned with the activities of health professionals in the job market. Initially organized into three main areas – ”Applied Sciences to Cancer,” “Applied Sciences to Cardiovascular Diseases,” and “Translational Medicine”—the program introduced a new research track in 2025: “Multidisciplinary Innovation in Health,” aimed at exploring and promoting innovative solutions and technologies in the field of Medicine I, through interdisciplinary integration.
Recognized for its interdisciplinary approach, the program stands out due to its highly qualified faculty of researchers. It also boasts excellent physical and technological infrastructure, equipped with advanced resources that provide ideal conditions for developing projects and fostering scientific collaboration. This structure is backed by the support of various units within the institution, including the University Hospital of Faculdade Ciências Médicas de Minas Gerais (HUCM-MG), the Outpatient Clinic of Faculdade Ciências Médicas de Minas Gerais (ACM-MG), the Oncology Institute of Faculdade Ciências Médicas de Minas Gerais (IONCM-MG), the Eye Institute of Faculdade Ciências Médicas de Minas Gerais (IOCM-MG), the Skills and Realistic Simulation Laboratory (LabSim), and the Cardiopulmonary Assessment and Intervention Laboratory. The program’s strength is also illustrated through its partnerships with national and international institutions, expanding opportunities for scientific collaboration and integrating researchers into the global scene. Consequently, research projects are developed in Belo Horizonte and at various research centers across Brazil and internationally, enabling productive exchanges with esteemed Brazilian and international researchers. This network of cooperation contributes to the production of studies published in high-impact journals, demonstrating the excellence and significance of the program. Furthermore, the variety of the faculty’s work is evident in numerous research tracks, projects, theses, and dissertations, underscoring the breadth and innovation that characterize the Master’s Program.
The Ordinance No. 526 (Portaria nº 526), published in the Official Federal Gazette (D.O.U.) on June 18, 2014, Section 1, page 11, recognizes the Graduate Program in Health Sciences at Faculdade Ciências Médicas de Minas Gerais.

Master’s course summary
Management of aesthetic procedures complications
Summary: Recognition of early and late signs of complications of surgeries: hematomas, abscesses, infections, dehiscence. Management of cosmetic complications. Recognition of early and late signs of complications of cosmetic procedures. With worldwide interest growing in cosmetic procedures, several of them being “in-office procedures”, different healthcare providers, many of them without proper training, started to adventure themselves in cosmetic procedures. Several mistaken concepts have been used to justify that providers who are not properly trained would start doing invasive procedures:
- a misinterpretation of the necessary tools to perform an invasive procedure;
- a misinterpretation of the concept of invasive procedure;
- a feeling among those providers that even without attending medical school, attending short courses would lead to a wide knowledge about the procedure;
- a belief that those procedures are not invasive (or minimally invasive) and would not follow with severe – eventually, life-threatening complications.
This discipline aims to discuss the common causes for most complications that have arrived in the emergency rooms, dermatology, and plastic surgery settings.
Professor: Gisele Viana de Oliveira
Advanced topics in healthcare: evidence-based practices and the Brazilian context
Summary: The course will address scientific evidence on various topics in the health field, contextualizing them in the Brazilian context. Relevant and current points will be explored, providing an in-depth understanding of evidence-based practices. The course will be taught in English to ensure an international approach.

The Lucas Machado Educational Foundation (FELUMA) and the Faculdade Ciências Médicas de Minas Gerais (FCMMG) understand that the concept of internationalization should be integrated into the institution’s organizational culture. With this objective, they established in 2018 the Office of International Relations, which is directly linked to the Rector’s Office.
The mission of this office is to promote and to strength academic and institutional cooperation at a global level. It is supported by the Internationalization Committee in developing internationalization strategies aligned with the institution’s guidelines.

These conditions may be fulfilled under the guidance of an accredited advisor for a shorter period (minimum of 3 months) for research purposes. After acceptance, research exchange students may also enroll in courses if they wish to. The decision to combine research with course enrollment rests with the student.
If the student opts to take the stricto sensu postgraduate course – MASTER’S DEGREE, they must register for the notices offered twice a year (master’s notices website) during the 1st and 2nd semesters.
The FCCMG Master’s Program has a 24-month duration with subjects available in Portuguese and English (subject links). The student must complete 24 credits and defend a research project to obtain the diploma in Medicine I.
If they also wish to enroll in individual subjects of the Master’s Program in Health Sciences, they should consult the information regarding the Exchange Program in the master’s department via email (mestrado@cienciasmedicasmg.edu.br) or at the internationalization department of the Faculty (Internationalization – CMMG).
The International Relations Office can also be reached by email at internacionalizacao@cienciasmedicasmg.edu.br.
Language Requirements:
There are no specific language prerequisites for students intending to engage only in research activities. The language of communication during these activities can be agreed upon by the student and the supervising professor.
Before Applying: To apply for the Master’s Degree Postgraduate Exchange Program, students must contact an advisor accredited by the Health Sciences Program. For more information on locating an advisor, refer to the faculty section below.
Programs, Areas of Concentration, and Lines of Research.
